slower ?
do you mean the values to the right ?
if they are pi-marks or something like that, then the kernel is faster than nitro3.

I have problems with HALD (HAL from DBUS from CVS) with nitro kernels.
Problemm is that hald do not response after some time, and
Code:
# ps axl|grep hald
5     0 12173     1  20   0  4864 3520 ide_do Ds   ?          0:00 /usr/sbin/hald

It seems to be same incompatible things from hald to new kernel IDE calls.

you tested nitro3 twice with a 0.161 difference (maths in my head, tell me if i'm incorrect), also could you write a howto on how to do this so i can do some scheduler benchmarkings.

ok you tested nitro3 3 times now i reread it:
2.6.9-rc1-nitro3 Mon Sep 6 13:01:52 2004 50.682
2.6.9-rc1-nitro3 Tue Sep 7 20:55:08 2004 51.843
2.6.9-rc1-nitro3 Mon Sep 6 12:52:07 2004 52.003

Doesn't this show that nitro4 is about average of the nitro3 performance spectrum?

this script is a function of a mine main script that i use to compile kernel and other stuff...the problem is that now is only avaiable in italian language only, and the code is not really clean ;)

What programs does it use to benchmark? Also, you didn't mention what the third one was.

PS Opera sucks :P

And please without some jokes about my power cable.

I wrote this message with that pc so i think the power cable is plugged in, becaus it's a

If i try to shutdown my pc via kde or via console #halt

ATX power off doesn't work and i need to push my power butten to switch off.

Thanx for any advice :? :?

[offtopic]
Opera sux indeed, it renders stuff almost as bad as IE  It doesn't even know what z-index is

Honestly, firefox is the best browser on earth, no doubt about it. Just test it, make a html page with some advanced CSS (like boxes with z-indexes) in it. Opera and IE will render things wrong while Firefox ALWAYS renders everything 100% like you coded it. Firefox is the browser that respects the webstandards the most.

Oh and take a look at www.mozdev.org ... there are A LOT plugins available for Firefox so don't say that Opera has more features or something :)
[/offtopic]

And power down works fine here btw. If you have problems with it, try to reverse acpi-dsdt-initrd-patch-v0.6-2.6.9.patch. I think that is one which causes your troubles, sibov. Did power down worked with nitro3?

Excellent! Compiles and runs excellently well on my system.

Also, unlike some of the other kernel patchsets, I can successfully enable p4 HT without breaking my keyboard intermittently. Very nice.

Unrelated to the kernel, but I finally took the plunge and moved to a pure udev system. Had some hangups, but everything is going swimmingly.

One of the fastest nitros I've used yet...certainly faster than the 2.6.8.1 5 and 6 nitros, anyway (which is what I'd needed to use before, thanks to some strange compiler errors which have since vanished).

Good work.

I just decided to try this kernel out and i'm haveing a simular probelm to nuzzy. When my computer boots it goes to get the ip address for eth0 (dhcp) and the computer just locks up there. I am useing an Intel PRO/1000 CT (built in too my mobo), it works fine under windows and my back up kernel (2.6.9 rc1 MM2). Any ideas why its not working under this kernel verstion?

Coolness! Now gensplash doesn't show the ugly text console when booting for the first two seconds.

However, I do have a question. With this kernel (and some others in the past), when I switch VCs, the screen blacks it self for half a seconds, almost like its changing resolution. It didn't do this w/ the 2.6.8.1 kernels and it would go directly to them, but 2.6.9-pre* has that delay. Any idea on what's causing it?

i've experienced this as well with 2.6.9-rc* kernels. i have not found a solution. anybody else have suggestions?

i'm using fbsplash and vesafb-tng.

For me, it only does this with fesafb-tng, not the default vesa. Ymmv, however...

I was having Power issues with my sound and video cards earlier today. So I switched back to iogl-sources, and it worked fine. Mainly, studdering audio, which I recognized as being a power issue. Sound cards were both emu10k1-based (SBLive! and Audigy2.)

I've also had such problems: the booting process stopped while starting lo (or in other case, pci-hotplug). By setting RC_PARALLEL_STARTUP to "no" in /etc/conf.d/rc, however, I was finally able to boot the machine. Of course, it may have been pure luck...

I've just read about the new voluntary pre-emption patch. Is it planned to be included in the next release or does anyone want to try porting it? I haven't checked it out yet, that's why I'm asking.

I already tried several times to include this patch. But it changes a LOT of files, and it's hard to patch against it later on. But once I succeed in it, and it all compiled fine! But when I rebooted with that new kernel, I got several kernel panics :(

Voluntary preempt isn't (or wasn't?) mature enough yet. But I will still experiment with it. I will include it when it's more stable :)

I think CK's patches + voluntary preempt gives your system a huge performance boost.

Yeah, it's been my guess too. Hopefully it'll work sometime. :)

does this kernel support write-barriers?
with
Code:

#/dev/hda6               /home                  reiser4         noatime,barrier=flush           0 0

my /home won't mount
