|
|
I recently my hands on a 56k dial modem and decided to try and see if I could set my PC up as a phone, using my microphone and speakers. I don't mean a SIP phone, but a landline telephone. Unfortunately, I can't find any software for Linux that will allow me to do this.
I would like to know if anyone knows of a program that can do this.
Thanks in advance. _________________ "Pssht. Extreme sports. If you want a real adrenaline rush, go write a physics exam without a calculator." - D.Z. |

I think to do this you need a special "voice modem"
Under windows this would show up as a seperate device to the actual modem (under soundcards) You would have to find a modem with a linux compatible sound system. |

Not true, you can recieved calls and faxes through your modem, and dial-out, under windows under a great program I know called.... well I forgot but I've seen it running =P Will post the name soon. In any case, this stuff should be available under linux - I'm trying to find it myself, which is what lead me to this thread. Anyone know of software that even half replicates this? _________________ 'I'll tell you something the great Maharishi Guru taught me - and I don't think there's a day goes by that I don't remember this one simple lesson. my point is this exactly, under windows you have a voice modem which allows you to send audio over the modem.
This relies on windows drivers.
There are several linux packages that use the telephony system in the kernel. However I doubt there is anything that can use the voice part of an internal modem. You most likely need some sort of IVR card. Check out asterisk |
