|

I just recently discovered the bittorrent protocol and i think it would work wonderfully with the over all idea of gentoo. All the syncing and emergeing could be dled from a bittorrent. This would reduce stress on the servers considerably i think. Tell me how you guys would feel about this!

I didnt know about that, next time i dl a gentoo iso ill go there. I was thinking more of an integral part of the emrgeing system then just for iso's. As gentoo gets more and more popular, we are going to need more and more servers to support the need of all our emerging and syncing. this way we can have then entire gentoo user base each be a server to help spread ebuilds and source code. It could make the gentoo platform infinitly scaleable. |

Im not saying there is a problem with the current setup, I get great speeds when I emerge. I just think it would be really cool. |

As usual I read only the half...
Regarding syncing and emering via BitTorent: Too slow. Since the files are not signed yet, untrusted rsync sources are a security problem. Last but not least: Gentoo is magnitudes smaller than Debian, bandwidth and number mirrors go up steadily. There will be no problem with it. BitTorrent is fine for big files like Isos, if you like it, though. _________________ Please make sure that you have searched for an answer to a question after reading all the relevant docs. |
