|
|
I have a fairly powerful computer, 2,6 GHz and 0,5 GB RAM, but when I try to save a mail in Kmail it takes about a minute to show a file dialog.
Krusader took a minute to start.
When I start writing the adress in a new mail in kmail, it stops, works for a minute to find a matching emailadress. That's a nice feature, but it should be MUCH faster.
Has anyone else noticed this, or knows anything about this? |

Is dma enabled on your hd ? You can turn it on with:
Also, kde is much faster when you prelink it. Look for this in the gentoo docs! |

Prelink only accelerates application start time, which will not help in this case. Sounds to me like you might not be using the programs from within KDE or that maybe you compiled them with CFLAGS that were too aggressive as I do not have any programs doing that on my PII 400mhz instantly. |

You are right, I'm using fluxbox.
Aggresive CFLAGS? Hmm,
here are my CFLAGS:
CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -finline-functions -mmmx -m3dnow -msse"
Btw. hdparm /dev/hda says
/dev/hda:
multcount = 16 (on)
IO_support = 1 (32-bit)
unmaskirq = 1 (on)
using_dma = 1 (on)
keepsettings = 0 (off)
readonly = 0 (off)
readahead = 256 (on)
geometry = 19457/255/63, sectors = 312581808, start = 0
So dma is turned on. |
