Hallo zusammen,

bash-2.05b# lsusb
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0830:0070 Palm, Inc.
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 058f:9254 Alcor Micro Corp. Hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

Kugelmugel.

I am using my Zire with Kernel 2.6 and Jpilot.

@ dweebs0r: i checked this readme.usb. I can't find the modules usb-ohci, usb-uhci and usb. how can i install them?

@sas: enclosed the message from dmesg:

agpgart: Putting AGP V2 device at 0000:00:00.0 into 4x mode
agpgart: Putting AGP V2 device at 0000:01:00.0 into 4x mode
usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using address 3
usb 1-1: USB disconnect, address 3

the device is recognized, but it does not synchronize. i checked this as root with k-pilot, it does not detect this device.

i have also vm-ware running (win 2000), in the win2000 the hotsync with the palm zire is no problem, so i assume the system can handle the usb devices...

regards,
kugelmugel.

Forget kpilot, try using Jpilot. Its much better.
Hmm, if its being recognised it may be another problem.

Make sure you make a sympolic link to /dev/usb/tts/1
(ln -s /dev/pilot /dev/usb/tts/1)

Sometimes its a permissions problem as well.
After making your sym link go to /dev/usb and do a chmod 777 tts/ -R
Note that the tts/ 1 will only show up when your palm is plugged in via usb.

Emerge jpilot and u should be set.

Hope this helps.

I don't think that it's a problem with the device file because there is no output that the file was created in dmesg. Please make sure that you have 'visor' compiled in your kernel or as module and already loaded when you try to sync.

After that you should get the device file name in dmesg when you press the hotsync-button on your Palm or USB-Cradle.

Btw I like KPilot much more than JPilot because I use KDE. But I'm going to sell my Tungsten T because I own a Symbian Smartphone now. Unfortunally it seems that I have to write software to sync it with Linux myself :/ But there's an NFS server for symbian, so I can mount the filesystem via BT or IR ;)

Edit: You can find the USB-stuff in your kernel-config in ''Device Drivers -> USB Support", the visor is located at "Device Drivers -> USB Support -> USB serial converter".

hello Sas and dweebs0r,

thank's a lot for your help - finally the hotsync between evolution and palm zire worked...   the module visor was not installed/compiled....

in my opinion the new kpilot (kde 3.3) is quite good - it was possible to auto detecd the palm and even use the hotsync for ximian evolution.

once again: thank you!!!

best regards,
kugelmugel.
