i keep putting things like

Code:

sys-apps/coreutils
sys-apps/portage
dev-libs/fftw

in /etc/portage/package.provided but it doesn't make a difference to emerge.. di i need to use an option with emerge??

i want to be able to just emerge a package while skipping one of it's deps... since usually the dependancy that breaks the chain is already installed and stable anyways
