salve a tutti!
non ci sentiamo da un po' perchè la mia gentoo funziona a meraviglia, ma ora m'era venuta la voglia di provare qualche gioco, ma cominciano i problemi con la geforce..

ho guardato qualche thread anche un po' vecchio che parlava di problemi similli ai miei ma non ho trovato soluzione :(

ho una mobo via (p4pb 400) e una geforce4
sintomi:

nel kernel (un 2.6.8 gentoo) ho messo sia il supporto per agpgart che l'agp per chipset via
nel xorg.conf al momento sto usando il driver nv perchè se metto quello nvidia X non si carica e per di più freeza tutto! rimane solo un bruto reset (non va neanche ctrl+alt+canc!)
se provo glxgears va a circa 300 fps.. e glxinfo mi dice che il direct rendering è disattivato
ho emerso nvidia-kernel e nvidia-glx
il modulo nvidia chiaramente è caricato correttamente al boot

servono altre info?
grazie mille per eventuale aiuto! ci sto impazzendo!

se non metti i drivers nvidia mi sa che di 3d ne vedrai poco. Comunque nemmeno a me funzionano con il 2.6.8, prova a mettere l'ultima versione del 2.6.7 gentoo.
e nell' /etc/X11/xorg.conf dovresti avere qualcosa del genere:

driver nvidia dove? nel xorg.conf?

si li devi installare, esci da X preferibilmente e dai:

poi in /etc/X11/xorg.conf modifica la sezione device ed avere una cosa simile a questa (ti passo anche qualche opzione del driver):

metti dell'nvidia-kernel e nvidia-glx questa versione (la penultima):

L'ultima sembra dare prestazioni peggiori, infatti abbiamo pure aperto in thread per questo motivo

@xdrum: gli emerge li ho già fatti, 2 o 3 volte almeno..
l'unica cosa nuova che vedo sono le opzioni del driver che però a quanto ho capito sono cose "in più", non dovrebbero essere indispensabili per l'utilizzo del driver. quel "busid" invece che è? lo devo mettere per forza? e il bus è uguale è al tuo?
ah ho dimenticato di dire che il opengl-update l'ho fatto, ma nn sembra cambiare nulla :(

se metto il driver nvidia nel xorg.conf (come già detto) al momento di avviare X (startx o xdm che sia) si freeza tutto e non si può più fare assolutamente nulla
una volta invece mi era apparso il logo nvidia, pensavo fosse fatta, invece dopo un po' ho chiuso fluxbox e s'è freezato ancora! 8O (glxgears comunque non aveva lasciato i 300 fps)

per quanto riguarda i due ebuild io ho

allora posta il tuo xorg.conf e il log (/var/log/Xorg.0.log)
è necessario per capire quale è il problema

devi mettere Driver "nvidia" ti ho detto altrimenti _NON_ ti carica il driver propietario nvidia
ti carica quello open contenuto in XOrg!!!!!!!!!
quindi è inutile riemergere cambia quella riga e riavvia xorg

se metto il driver nvidia invece di nv non parte!!
si freeza completamente, la tastiera non risponde più, ctrl+alt+f1 non mi porta da nessuna parte, ctrl+alt+bksp non fa nulla, ctrl+alt+canc nemmeno, e mi tocca resettare!

si freeza tutto...
potrebbe essere per colpa dell'Agp ovvero del modulo agp,
delle opzioni sopracitate una potrebbe essere determinante:

Alcune mobo montano dei chipset problematici per questo driver,
per ottenere le massime performance nvidia consiglia di caricare il suo supporto agp (NvAGP "1") ma per ottenere stabilita' consiglia di utilizzzare il modulo Agpgart del kernel (NvAGP "3") potrebbe essere quello.

puoi fare anche un'altra prova eventualmente abbassare la velocità del bus AGP da bios ad esempio da 4 a 2 o da 8 a 4 dipende dalla tua mobo

NOTA:il supporto AGP nvidia viene caricato sol ose specificato da quella opzione e se il modulo agpgart è stato costruito come modulo nel kernel (non builtin)

ok grazie!
allora la prova abbassando la velocità dell'agp l'avevo già fatta qualche giorno fa perchè avevo letto un thread qua e tra i suggerimenti c'era anche quello, l'ho cambiata da 4 a 2, ma /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status mi dava sempre disabled e il freeze col driver nvidia continuava, insomma non è cambiato niente.

l'opzione NvAGP l'avevo provata a "1" sempre dopo aver letto qual thread, proverò a mettere "3" perchè non l'avevo fatto.

per quanto riguarda l'agp, è fatto come modulo il supporto per chipset via, mentre l'agpgart è builtin, adesso farò un altro kernel con l'agpgart come modulo.

provo un po' e faccio sapere, grazie!!

di nulla ti garantisco che se il chipset della tua mobo è mensionato nella doc di invida come buggato al 90% il problema è proprio quello, di conseguenza abbasssando la velocità dell'agp dovresti essere in grado di prevenire i freeze

non succede nulla! :cry: :cry:
ho messo agpgart modulo invece di builtin, ho messo l'opzione per l'agp nel xorg.conf, ho anche abbassato l'agp dal bios da 4 a 2, ma nulla nel modo più assoluto! quando X parte si blocca completamente tutto, non so che diavolo fare..

lo avvio e quando si freeza rebooto senza avviare X e posto il log..??

ehm.. leggendo il log mi sono accorto che xorg carica il driver "nv"
a mio parere significa una di due cose..
o quel log non è quello fatto col driver nvidia perhcè xorg non è riuscito a scriverlo su disco a causa del freeze
oppure xorg è pirla e non mi ha caricato il driver nvidia ma l'nv per sua volontà..
propenderei per la prima.. ma allora come si fa se non posso neanche vedere i log? :(

guarda mi è capitato anche a me... e mi sta ancora capitando... mi sa che l'unica è trovare dei vecchi driver di nvidia xè la prima volta che misi gentoo all'inizio di quest'anno mi andavano i driver nvidia...

cmq a me è migliorato.. ora mi si freeza solo quando esco :D


prima provo i consigli detti sopra.. in ordine:
abbassare la velocità dell'agp e usare NvAGp 3 cn il kernel che ha agpgart come modulo
se ancora non va proverò con un kernel + vecchio del 2.6.8
insomma fatte ste cosette qua posto il log del mio X che penso lo abbia scritto xè si freeza in uscita e basta

(p.s. anche io ho una mobo con chipset via, l'apollo pro o na roba simile, vecchio cmq)


edit:

mentre stavo facendo delle prove, mi sn messo a spippolare in /proc/driver/nvidia
stampando agp/status a video mi dice Status Disabled.....

è normale???
