|
|
Hey there. I've been using Gnome for a few months now and one day, when I was using Gaim, Gaim kicked me offline. I tried various times to get back on but then I decided to just reboot. When I tried to get back into Gnome, it froze or something at the loading point...it wouldn't finish loading and let me in. The wierd thing is, I didn't do anything different to my computer lately...so there's really no reason why it would act wierd all of a sudden. Then I used Fluxbox and it worked fine...my internet worked and everything. A few days later, I still couldn't get into Gnome and my internet and sound stopped working too! My computer sees my IP address, but it wont connect to the internet. Now the only way I can use my computer correctly is in Knoppix. When I try to do things, I don't even get specific errors, so I don't know how to fix it. I think Gnome is killing my computer! ANY SUGGESTIONS??
Thanks in advance,

make sure gnome is in your use variables and reemerge it _________________ ...it must have been very demanding having to learn how to use Microsoft Office, right up there with other lofty challenges like learning how to zip your fly without getting your dick caught. |

Well, I would try that but I forgot to mention that my friend got rid of gdm thinking it might help and then we realized that I don't have the internet to get it back...so I'm kinda screwed. We think that getting into my cable modem might fix the internet if the settings got messed with somehow. After we fix the internet, we'll have to try and fix Gnome. Any ideas or further suggestions??
Thanks,

That will be a massive undertaking, you should start with AOL. |

Do you get errors when you try /etc/init.d/net.eth0 restart? (as root)
Can you give us the output of ifconfig and maybe something like ping www.google.com.
And post your /etc/conf.d/cat. What kernel are you using? Did you check your hd for errors? |
