I just installed Gentoo from stage2, emerged kde, and configured X. Starting X causes the system to hang. Wont even respond to ping. I'm at work now so i dont have access to the machine (check config etc) :/
Anyway, the system is a p4 3ghz, 1gb (asus p4g8x deluxe, granite bay chipset), wd raptor disks (onboard sata controller), gf4 ti4200 64mb, sb live. Im using the nvidia-kernel drivers, and I think i got the config right (modelines etc).
I havent installed a linux in 2 years and I havent run X for quite some time, so im not really up to date on the fancy stuff (oh yes, i googled.).(althou i use linux daily) Ie it seems that there's something conflicting with a) geforce b) the chipset.
One thing I did notice was that the geforce uses irq, which is shared with uhci (usb hub?) according to /proc/interrupts and /proc/pci.
Is there any problems with dri? or do you guys know of something that i may have forgotten from the kernel, or something i have there which causes the lockup. (as there is no coredump, nor any logs of the event.) To me it seems like an hw config issue..
BR,

Yes, basically that you shouldn't be using it
and change the necessary parts in xorg.conf. _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /

Yes, and swap it for module=glx !
The kernel driver is nvidia, I guess you already changed that bit. _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /

hmm, off from work. Took out dri, doest work.. Anybody got any suggestions? I can post my xorg.conf if anybody needs it... The use of driver vga works fine. Which points out that the nvidia driver fscks things up...

Problem Solved. Exchanged nvidia-kernel (portagee system) and replaced it with the one from nvidia.com. Works like a charm _________________ If both wheels are on the ground, then you arent going fast enough! |
