|
|
on boot I get the error "device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such file or directory)"
asfxload gives me this error when I get to the MIDI part of the gentoo alsa howto:
No Emux synth hwdep device is found
So, I'm at a loss as to where I'm deviating from the sound guide, or where I should be but am not, and I'm not knowledgable enough to really know how to diagnose what could be wrong. I'm pretty sure that I compiled sound support (emu10k1) into the kernel (2.6., or at least I tried my best. Please help me! |

Are you using OSS or ALSA? |

Well, I started with just ALSA, and then when that didn't work I went through the procedure again and did the OSS stuff, but that didn't change anything. I don't really know what either of them are, so I just went with the path of least resistance when reading through the howto |

btw, thanks for the response.
I've read through stuff on these forums and google, but it all either doesn't seem applicable, or goes over my head. |
