I see lots of instructions to setup dsl and network this and that. However, how do I setup my 56k connection to work with gentoo at the beginning of the install? i tried pppsetup or even net-setup ppp0 but that didn't perform the steps I need to connect my box to my ISP via my modem (hardware based modem not winmodem). Any suggestions?? |

I suppose i should have been more specific. This is my first install of gentoo and I am at the first stage. I don't have dsl or cable or share a network. It's a standalone box with a modem.
I used wvdial and/or pppconfig in the past but those commands do not work on gentoo (unless i did something wrong). Do I have to load pppd via modprobe? Currently only the sound and scsi emulation modules (CD-R) are loaded.
I really want to get started on using gentoo but I have to have my dialup setup so gentoo can download whatever it needs.
Any help would be enormously appreciated or tips or criticisms of any kind. |
