Hi everyone!
I have ntpd 4.2.0-r2 installed, but noticed this morning that it had crashed. The log has these lines:
Code: |
10 Sep 07:17:55 ntpd[23509]: synchronized to 213.15.3.18, stratum=2
10 Sep 07:28:37 ntpd[23509]: time reset +0.194989 s
10 Sep 07:30:11 ntpd[23509]: Exiting: No more memory!
|
My server was of course NOT out of memory, so what caused this crash? And better, how do I prevent future ones?
My NTP server is part of the pool.ntp.org project, so it's kinda critical it stays up... _________________ Greetz,

see this thread for some hints on why ntpd can't allocate more memory. they seem to have solved it by adding this to ntp.conf:
Code: | disable monitor
restrict default nopeer |
the "nopeer" keyword will make ntpd provide time services to hosts but not use any memory for the task.
also, running "ntpdc -c memstats |grep memory" should give you some stats on the memory usage.
hope it helps!
