I was curious as to if sleep will ever be supported on the albook. What is it that prevents sleep? Is it something with the video card? I'm just wondering if it's a matter of time or if sleep won't ever be supported.

sleep looks good on a 2.6.9 kernel, rumours said. could not yet test it, but with little 'hacking' sleep should work now... _________________ geek by nature, linux by choice

Sleep is the most desirable missing feature for me atm. |

Actually my powerbook has an nvidia chip. I'm using the 'nv' driver currently. _________________ Registered Linux User Nr # 319050

i ordered a g4 ibook and should be a day or two. some say the sleep works, from #gentoo. i wont know till i test it. does the sleep work in console, X, both, none? i use this at school in between classes and having to shut down all the time would suck, quiting X and going to console to sleep would be ok. then just startx, less time than reboot.

I fail to see *anything* related to ibook G4 sleep (nor PB G4) in the latest bitkeeper changelogs. What kind of rumors are these? |

|
|
Hi,
i have the Alu PowerBook 12" with the nvidia bases graphic card. My question now is:
Is sleep now supported on this machine? I tried it with the 2.6.8-gentoo-r3 kernel and pbbuttonsd 0.6.4 but allways get :
Sep 4 02:54:52 spy pmud[7313]: going to sleep
Sep 4 02:54:52 spy pmud[7313]: cannot put system to sleep! (Function not implemented)
Sep 4 02:54:52 spy kernel: Sleep mode not supported on this machine
in my syslog.
Am i miss something or is it just not supported yet?
Thanks for replies.

Not working on my nvidia albook either. Same results. I don't know what the rumor was all about. _________________ Registered Linux User Nr # 319050

The nvidia based PowerBooks have absolutely no hope of getting sleep to work as nvidia won't give out any specs regarding waking the chip up again.
With radeonfb, however, ATI have been willing to give the specs in the past, but it normally takes a long time, iirc. |

The only thing avaiable at this moment is suspend
Take a look at this thread on gentoo forums, or to this one on debian ml.
I'm going to try suspend, I'll let you now how it works on ly ibook G4 with radeon video card _________________ ~ "Progress is merely a realisation of utopias" ~ |

That sounds pretty promising once some of the bugs get worked out. It's not sleep, but I be very happy with it. I'll try to get it working once I get home.
btw, thanks for the links _________________ Registered Linux User Nr # 319050
