In Gaim all the sounds have an extra little blip at the end, so its like Bliiinngg..BLIP. This is pretyy annoying, and if theres a way for them to sound normal i'd love to hear it. Im using alsa and all my other sounds sound really nice.

What soundcard do you have? What driver are you using? Do you have a .asoundrc file? Are you using oss emulation?

Sound Blaster SBLive! Alsa. No. I think so, it's compiled in my kernel and alsa says some stuff about it on startup.

Alsa isn't the driver, it's the sound system itself. Do an lsmod. My output has the following entries (among others emitted):
Code:
snd-mixer-oss          13912   1 (autoclean)
snd-seq-oss            30432   0 (unused)
snd-seq-midi-event      4064   0 [snd-seq-oss]
snd-seq                42128   2 [snd-seq-oss snd-seq-midi-event]
snd-intel8x0           20744   1
snd-ac97-codec         55932   0 [snd-intel8x0]
snd-pcm                68260   0 [snd-intel8x0]
snd-page-alloc          6744   0 [snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm]
snd-timer              17188   0 [snd-seq snd-pcm]
snd-mpu401-uart         4096   0 [snd-intel8x0]
snd-rawmidi            15268   0 [snd-mpu401-uart]
snd-seq-device          4388   0 [snd-seq-oss snd-seq snd-rawmidi]
snd                    37604   0 [snd-mixer-oss snd-seq-oss snd-seq-midi-event snd-seq snd-intel8x0 snd-ac97-codec snd-pcm snd-timer snd-mpu401-uart snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device]
soundcore               4580   3 [snd]

My driver is the snd-intel8x0. What's yours?

Also, when you get your wierd sound, is there any entries in /var/adm/messages? How about dmesg? (Either are unlikely, but it doesn't hurt to check ;))
