Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone else out there has to open a terminal and manaully set the volume for alsa everytime you boot? That's what I have to do.

Like the install directions say, I did everything. when I open Kmix, the program tells me that I have no mixers installed. I did emerge amixer. Is there any easy way to fix this problem?

My other problem / question is... I did a emerge WindowMaker, and everything worked fine... however, when my system boots up, kdm only shows kde, flux, and a couple other wm's I have installed.... but not WindowMaker...

I emerged it twice just to be sure I emerged it corretly... is there a manual way that I can add that to kdm, or should I use something else like gdm, or xdm..

thanks,

Mike Rhodes

I don't know if it works with alsa, but I use aumix for setting volumes non-interaktively

eg. to turn off the sound from the tv-card on "line": ;)

Code:
aumix -l 0

I was having exactly this problem -- what it was was the alsa->oss compatibility mixer module wasn't being modloaded. I just put in "snd-card-mixer" (or something like that since I'm at work and can't look it up) into my modules.autoload and voila it worked.

the snd-mixer-oss module to autoload, doesn't work for me.

Further I've got during startup:
"Alsa driver already running!"

something to do with it?
