I am having alot fo trouble setting up ALSA. Using gentoo's guide, I get all the way up to '/etc/init.d/alsasound start'. After that, I try to start amixer and I get this output:
Code: | # /etc/init.d/alsasound start
* Loading ALSA drivers...
* Using ALSA OSS emulation
* Loading: snd-seq-oss
* Loading: snd-pcm-oss
* Loading: snd-ens1371
/lib/modules/2.4.26-gentoo-r9/kernel/sound/pci/snd-ens1371.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.26-gentoo-r9/kernel/sound/pci/snd-ens1371.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.26-gentoo-r9/kernel/sound/pci/snd-ens1371.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.26-gentoo-r9/kernel/sound/pci/snd-ens1371.o: insmod snd-ens1371 failed
* Running card-dependent scripts
* Restoring Mixer Levels
* No mixer config in /etc/asound.state, you have to unmute your card! [ ok ]
bash-2.05b# amixer
amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such device |
Anyone have any suggestions? _________________ Check out my...

Hey there,
It appears that you are running a 2.4 kernel so you need the alsa-modules ebuild installed and you need to make certain you are asking for the correct module for your hardware. Go to alsa's site and look up what module your card needs. That will clear up this problem you are having.
