How would you go about updating the firmware of your DVD-Writer

I got the flash utility (for DOS mode) and a .BIN file from the manufacturer.
Is there a way to flash the drive ? I am assuming it is unsafe to run the flash utility from wine (or is it?)

The reason I want to update the firmware is because they added more cd/dvd support for the drive...

I keep getting this error when trying to burn on Memorex DVD-R using K3B

Sep 16 18:39:18 localhost Error: Not ready -- (Sense key=0x02)

You will need to make a DOS bootdisk, boot into DOS and run the utility from there. Be warned that DOS can only read FAT partitions, so you will need to keep the .BIN file containing the new BIOS and the program to change it with on a FAT partition accessible by your computer. If you are lucky they will both fit on a floppy disk, which will work fine.
