How's porthole coming along? It's been awhile since a release and I can't find a updated cvs for it or anything. I see kde/qt frontends coming out steadily and since i'm a devoted gnome user i'm curious how the gtk2 frontend is coming. Thanks

It is moving along again. We lost a couple devs due to other commitments, so cannot spend the time on porthole anymore but are still around. Dan has just moved from Germany to the US and is not up and running yet. That leaves me. My wife & I bought a small business this spring, between that and my day job (air conditioning repair & a hot summer). I was too busy.
I have been working on it some more this past three weeks. I am trying to get a few more things ironed out for a -0.4 release. If you did not see it in the other porthole threads. Our cvs is easy to download and install, but you don't have to install it. It can be run locally from the downloaded copy of the cvs.
do a cvs checkout:
Porthole's CVS page, scroll down to the anonymous cvs section and follow the instructions.
http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=96324
from a terminal window
Code: | # cd porthole
big_squirt porthole # ./porthole -l -d
|
there are three command line options available now : -l (run local copy), -d (enable debug printing), -h (command line options help)
then all you have to do when there is an update in cvs is:
Code: | # cd porthole
# cvs update |
Please test the cvs, There have been a lot of changes since -0.3.1. I need some feedback if there are any more problems to work out before I can release -0.4. _________________ Brian

Hey man, thanks for the info. Good to see it's starting back up agiain.
Having problems getting the cvs though. Trying to browse it gives a proxy error.
Code: | Proxy Error
The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request GET /viewcvs.py/porthole.
Reason: Max-Forwards has reached zero - proxy loop? |
And then trying to get the code leaves another error...
Code: | $ cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/porthole login
Logging in to :pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:2401/cvsroot/porthole
CVS password:
cvs [login aborted]: unrecognized auth response from cvs.sourceforge.net: M PserverBackend::PserverBackend() Connect (Connection refused)
$ cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/porthole co porthole
cvs [checkout aborted]: unrecognized auth response from cvs.sourceforge.net: M PserverBackend::PserverBackend() Connect (Connection refused) |

They might have been down for maintainance at the time. I would try again. I never had errors browsing cvs with galeon. _________________ Brian

I've always had this problem, for the past few months. This is what i ment by I can't get the cvs. I tried it again earlier today, same problem. Tried it just now, same problem again. (tried browsing with multiple browsers, and since it's a proxy error, i doubt it's a problem with the web browser itself) _________________ I wish hell would freeze over already.

Ok. I cleaned out and packaged up my porthole directory. I will post in in gentoo chat. I take it that you can download from the porthole files section? If you can't, then I'll see if I can upload it to my webspace for you. _________________ Brian
