I upgraded to KDE 3.3 last night just to see how it looked. I'm an Enlightenment user but just wanted to see what I was missing. Two of the 35 packages merged last night were alsa-headers and alsa-lib. When I logged in this morning I found that I had no sound, apparently the channels were all muted again. I unmuted them and found immediately that for some reason the volume was very low. I have all channels set to 100 but it's still pretty low. I mean it's listenable but I can't disturb the neighbours anymore
Has anyone had this? Tips on how to fix it? _________________ The hour's approaching to give it your best,

I have the same low volume problem on KDE 3.2.2, linux 2.6.7-gentoo-r11 32 bit x86. However, the volume is ok for linux 2.6.7-gentoo-r11 64 bit x86_amd64.
I used alsamixer to check the level of PCM. It is 100%. My computer is Emachines M6807.

the same applied to me... I used Gnome and openbox before.
having a closer look at alsamixergui, I found four regulators which i never used before. Each of them is labeled "VIA DXS". The second one fixed the problem for me.
Hope this helps |

Thanks for your tip.
Problem is solved.
Edit:
Another problem: "VIA DXS" is reset to 0 after I power off the computer. Is there a way to save the setting?

Another solution to increase volume is:
amixer sset 'VIA DXS',0, 31 |
