No, I mean, seriously. Helvetica. What gives? We have them Bitstream Vera fonts now. Fontconfig has Sans and Serif aliased to them by default, which has Gnome using them. But KDE - noooo, we like Helvetica. Why???
(I do know how to change the fonts. I'm just curious as to the reason for the permanency of this rancid default) _________________ Tactless

You, Sir, disqualify yourself from any further discussion about fonts by calling the Helvetica typeface rancid.
You may or may not like antialiased fonts, you may therefore like or not like a non-antialiased default in KDE, but Helvetica is and remains one of the best fonts there is and a very good default.
Not all systems KDE runs on have the Bitstream Vera Fonts installed, and not all X11 implementations have a "Sans" or "Serif" alias. _________________ Please put [SOLVED] in your topic if you are a moron. |

Well I like Helvetica, but the one thing I hate on kde's default font settings is the font size, they are waaay too big. |

Well, that is what I'm talking about. Helvetica looks fine in 11. But not in the default size.
How come Gnome can get away using Sans and Serif if they don't exist on all *nix distributions? _________________ Tactless

Make that three.
Actually I personally like very small fonts on any interface controls (for the smple reason I never have to actualy read them anyway because after a while you just go by patern recongiton) but rather large ones on real text (like a web browser).
Consequently, I find most default font sizes both too small and too big.
(A default Mozilla install is the worst.) _________________ Please put [SOLVED] in your topic if you are a moron. |
