Dear all:
I installed Gnome and I am quite happy with it.
Now I want to make it look more sexy, so I went to Gnome-look.org.
First of all, I found out that there are many kind of themes.
Icon themes, Metacity themes, GDM, GTK themes. I don't really understand what the differences between theme? Could someone explain a bit about this stuff?
Many thanks!

Icon themes provide, like the name, a different set of icons.
GDM themes are themes for the GDM login manager.
GTK themes skin the content of a windows, aka the color, buttuns etc of the window, while metacity themes skin the outside of the windows, like fancy borders and stuff. |

Well those site explains what they mean and how to install them.
The difference is simple to see. As for icon themes is a set of
icons to replace the ones you have. GDM for the login manager.
GTK is for the widgets/colors/buttons etc. AFAIK.
If you want to beautify your gnome desktop all you have to do is
emerge redhat-artwork ximian-artwork and go to themes tool to
select the nice themes. |
