|

is Redhat/Fedora's Kudzu and Mandrake's Discover of any use with 2.6 kernel? -- do they offer anything that the in kernel auto module loading option doesnt?
What do these tools actually do, are there any alternatives? -- particularly auto editing configuration files and making things work as they are inserted.
Just from experience seems all supported hardware is already auto detected, modprobed and fully usable straight away without any hardware detection tools.
Any relevant info would be appreciated. |

I think this is what hotplug does. Modprobing modules is seldom needed. Almost everything gets modprobed automaticly. _________________ If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit. |

Oh yes, you're right: SuSE developed hotplug, Redhat developed kunzu, and Mandrake developed discover, and naturally gentoo uses the best
Thanks for clearing that up
Anything hotplug lacks compared to the redhat and mandrake solutions though? |

I think that's a good idea. I've been trying to set up a good system for my usb drives. I don't want to have to manually go through a bunch of crap if a friend wants to plug his USB drive in once.
I'll have to start trolling the hotplug development list to see if that's in the works... _________________ |
