HI, well I have some troubles with my desktop environment.
What I want is kde to run automatically when i turn my computer on, well after loding gentoo.

ok, my problem is that Xfree86 is the environment that loads automatic and I want KDE.

Can you tell me what can I do, and how to do it??
Thanks a lot.

ok, ok. I understand that kde is an environment and xfree is the window administrator or something like that, but my problem is that the first window that appears is the xfree window. It says "xfree86 project" and ask me for my user and password.
But what i want is kde to run instead of xfree log window.

I'm just guessing, but I think your problem is that xdm (the X login manager) comes up instead of kdm (the kde login manager).

To change this simply edit DISPLAYMANAGER in /etc/rc.conf to DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm".

If you also want to be logged in to your user automatically you can configure this from the kde control center. (I think it's under system administration -> login manager -> convenience).

To let kde startup automatically when you boot do:
rc-update add xdm default
(Yes it is called xdm, but it will take whatever you defined in /etc/rc.conf)

I saw the rc.conf file and it's exactly as you say.
DISPLAYMANAGER="kde"

I don't know what is the problem.
Thanks.

It has to be kdm, not kde.
