Hey, i'm new to this forum. I have been trying to install Gentoo on both x86 and my Wallstreet II G3. the wallstreet i get to the point where i'm suppose to emerge a kernel. When i emerge ppc-sources i'm get
"kernel 2.4 has been deprecated as all PowerPC development has moved to the 2.6 kernel tree"
and to use gentoo-dev-sources. When i do that i get
"Error: the virtual/modutils package conflicts with this package and both can't be installed on the same system together."
I'm not sure what that means, or how to resolve the error. anyone that could help me would be great.
i'm using the 1.4 ISO (forgot what rc) |

I also had a lot of problems with my oldworld. I had to do it from 1.2 livecd, and before making a kernel I had to update a lot of softvare. I had a lot of trouble with gcc. I had to use emerge some packages with --nodeps, so they would all install.
I would sugest updating everithing first. Couse old compilers can't compile all the new stuff.
Hope that helps you. |
