I can't creat the portage files

when creating the portage file i keep on getting the no space left on device error

Either you have missed the chroot step, in which case the files are going into memory, you have not mounted your partitions correctly and are trying to put everything into your small /boot partition or you have not allocated enough space for Gentoo.

What is your partitioning scheme and how big is each partition?
