I have recently upgraded my kernel from 2.6.7 to 2.6.8. Using 2.6.7 I have not had any problems, but I figured it would be a good time to upgrade my kernel anyway. I have used the floppy block device /dev/fd0 for 2.6.7 and now in 2.6.8 it doesn't exist, /dev/fd/1,2,3,255 exist, but they are not block devices. I imported my .config from 2.6.7 and double checked that floppy support was enabled. I don't know why the block device has disappeared, but I know it has. the vga=791 no longer works on boot to specify the res and bit depth of the terminal either.
