Hello to all of you,
I just installed cups and tried to add a new printer with:
lpadmin -p HPDeskJet -E -v parallel:/dev/lp0 -m deskjet.ppd
but I keep getting this error message:
lpadmin: add-printer failed: client-error-not-possible
I dis ls /dev and found nothing that sounded like parallelport.... no lp0 or something, although parport-support is staticly compiled into the kernel. So I created a device with the following command:
mknod -m /dev/lp0 c 6 0
chown root.daemon /dev/lp0
'cat /etc/someasciifile > /dev/lp0' says '/dev/lp0: Permission denied'
What am I doing wrong??(
So thankful for any help...

Do you have printer support compiled into your kernel? (CONFIG_PRINTER)
Also, does the web interface for CUPS work? (http://localhost:631)
