Hi,
I have been desperately searching for an archive format that fullfills the following requirements:
- Archives can be protected with a password.
The archives must not be cracked.
- There should be easy to use programs with GUIs, both under Windows and Linux, that can
compress an decompress using this archive format.
- The programs and the compressions routines should be open source.
- Primarily multimedia files will be stored in those archives,
so there is no need for good compression rates.
I was not able to find one archive format that fits my requirements, though I have searched a lot (wikipedia, google,... ). Am I blind? Maybe I just need a hint.
The problem with the zip archive format is, that there are patent issues with the compression algorithm and it is not open source, isn't it?
Thanks in advance
