I'm using a Belkin 2-port KVM switch, so I'm not sure if this is the problem (I don't think so, though).

I just installed 2004.2 via stage 1. I decided this time around I'd go with xorg. (so maybe xorg is the problem, who knows).

kernel 2.6.8-gentoo-r1, nvidia 1.0.1.6111 (NOT r1). xorg 6.7.0-r1. openbox 3.2. I have parts of gnome installed for gnome apps, but the actual windowmanager is not.

the keyboard works just fine outside of Xorg (I boot to the console and the run startx if I want windows). FWIW. the mouse works just fine as well.

However, when I load Xorg, the keyboard stops working properly. The wierd thing is, (as far as I can tell) most of my keybindings with xbindkeys work just fine. "mod4+r" brings up an aterm window, just as expected. However, trying to type *in* that aterm window produces nothing. The cursor blinks, but no output is seen. (The spiffy multimedia keys make the cursor blink too, so they are registering).

I tried changing the keyboard in xorg.conf to "pc104" (usually it is set to "logiitc", which is what worked just fine in Xfree), but I still had the same problem.

Xev produces some wierd results, which don't look correct at all.

Is there an obvious (or not so obvious) problem here? (before I have to move a bunch of stuff to redo cables and try the keyboard and mouse directly in the computer (sans KVM)).

thanks...

well, after reading some threads turned up in a search, I found only one useful thing (and I cannot *believe* that I didn't think of this) - try TWM. So I removed my .xinitrc and ran startx - hey, presto, it all works!

Then I modify my .xinitrc so that *only* openbox is loaded. Hey, it still works!

If I don't load xbindkeys, it all works. If I do, no typing happens.

I'm using xbindkeys 1.7.0 - is there a bug in this version? (or a bug between this version and xorg...?)

thanks...
