ok I have emerged KDE, and it works and all.
What is Fluxbox?
I know that it is a windows manager.
But what is a window manager?
Is KDE a window manager?
Do you need kde or gnome to use Fluxbox? |

Windowmanagers manage your windows
ie borders, buttons etc. and basic desktop functionality (a menu to launch programs)
KDE & Gnome are Desktop Environments. which are a window manager PLUS a ton of applications all mashed to gether to create a seamless desktop. KDE and Gnome are the Only 2 desktop Environments, anything else is a window manager. none of them are nearly as full featured as Gnome or KDE. but thats what alot of people are looking for. Fluxbox happens to be one of the lightest of them all. |

They may requires KDE or Gnome libs to be installed(i think of KOffice), but you can run them in a different window manager |

Never used either. I don't think CDE is available as an ebuild though. but regardless, I guess I stand corrected |

Found this in the Fluxbox FAQ...
Quote: | Is there KDE support?
Yeah, do ./configure --enable-kde. This makes it so that the KDE tray icons will appear in the slit.
Is there GNOME support?
Yeah, do ./configure --enable-gnome. This enables GNOME hints. |

fluxbox is pretty neat and tidy (and small) ...so if you don't like KDE or Gnome try it
but be sure to have gtk and qt installed (these are the things other programs -which would otherwise run in KDE and Gnome)
another little and tidy window maneger is iceWM ...try it _________________ tea+free software+law=hook

hmmm
If I could try them all I would.
But problem is that I don't have free download.
I have to pay pr. mb.
Is there any problems in having multible window managers installed?
KDE, Fluxbox and bla bla bla |

no, no problem at all ...they actually work quite fine one next to each other
1. you can install gdm or kdm (or even xdm) for loging in in the X and there you can choose every time which WM you'll use for your curent session.
2. you can do it manually and log in from the console and link the xinitrc with a xinitrc.* where "*" stands for the WM you'll use for the next session(s)
and don't worry all those WMs are rather small. _________________ tea+free software+law=hook

Maybe the Kde dir is not in your PATH.
Try "export PATH="/path/to/kde/install/dir":$PATH".
I had the same problem, and this solved it for me.
(But this was only a problem in SuSE, not in Gentoo...) |

No, that's not it.. it starts up, with the default Screen (The info screen) then as soon as I type in a URL and press enter it crashes. |
