|
|
Newbie question:
I have just installed Gentoo and are offline. I want to install linuxtv-dvb-1.1.1 which is not available from the livecd. I found it however on a mirror and dowloaded it at my office and put it in the distfiles dir. But, emerge does not now about it.
How do I update the portage tree when I am offline? I want to do emerge rsync wihout a network connection? I found a snapshot on a mirror but does not now how to install it.

Which doesn't answer the question how to update your portage tree. (It's the todo section). The only solution I can think of is having a gentoo machine on the net and copying the tree from that one |

From the gentoo installation handbook :
tar -xvjf /mnt/cdrom/snapshots/portage-[datehere].tar.bz2 -C /mnt/gentoo/usr
you can get the last portage snapshot on the gentoo ftp server ...
[edit] Sorry for my initial post, I started replying without reading the full post ... silly me [/edit] _________________ ________________________________

Great, I'll try that at home tonight, but the problem is that I do not have a modem either (yet). I have however downloaded the package and put in the distfile dir already.
The wiki was full of intresting stuff, haven't seen it before. Should be a link from gentoo.org.
