in the ebuild it says:
# NOTE: to build without the mail and news component: export NO_MAIL="YES"
If you want to turn other stuff off, you could look at the ebuild, and mabey change some things...

To expand on this, there is a 'moznomail' USE variable. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

Excellent! Is there a USE flag to exclude the composer and IRC client as well? |

Now would be a good time to mention /usr/portage/profiles/use.desc
EDIT: Or not. There's no mention of the moznomail option. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

I don't see anything like that. If you're curious as to what USE flags a particular ebuild understands, try grepping it for IUSE. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

If you're looking for just a mozilla browser I would recommend phoenix. It's a lightweight but not low functionality browser that builds from modifications to the latest mozilla code. It loads much faster than mozilla, has built in pop-up blocking and other things. There's a phoenix-bin emerge in portage, but I personally prefer doing a custom compiled version (mine works very well ). There is a thread about it here. I highly recommend it. _________________ Excellent.. |

Galeon is Gnome only.

Already did that (built my own) and it was every bit as slow as Mozilla... with the added benefit of having many bugs. When they eventually get rid of all the bugs and dependency on old Mozilla code then Phoenix will be a nice browser, and probably the standard for Linux. Until then I see no benefit. |

Galeon does not require Gnome. It requires libraries that Gnome uses, but not Gnome the "environment". _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

Would I have to install all of Gnome? Also, doesn't Galeon require Mozilla as well?
From galeon.sourceforge.net:
Quote: | Galeon is a GNOME Web browser based on gecko (the mozilla rendering engine). It's fast, it has a light interface, and it is fully standards-compliant. You can download it but first take a look at some screenshots and read additional documentation (installation...). It requires Gnome and Mozilla. |

why dont you have a look at this:
That will tell you what you need to install. It does require mozilla to be built, but it only uses a little chunk of it (gecko rendering engine) |
