I'm running P4 with gentoo-dev-2.6.8-r3 kernel.
I've activated the Kernel ALSA driver.

When I'm starting Gentoo in text-mode the sound works great:
Code:
aplay mysong.wav

This is also true when I run X11
However, when I start kde and it's up-and-running the sound is gone! :x

Code:
bash-2.05b$ startkde

startkde: Done.

Note the error on alsa-lib.... And that the welcome music is played!

Now, to get the music back I have to run the following commands as root:
Code:
/etc/init.d/alsasound stop
rm /etc/asound.state
/etc/init.d/alsasound start
amixer set Master 100
amixer set PCM 100

Now I got audio back, until I restart kde :?

I later found that I could alter the "/etc/conf.d/alsasound" value: SAVE_ON_STOP="no"
Now, when I start kde and want sound, I only need to restart alsasound
Code:
/etc/init.d/alsasound restart

Does anybody out there have any clues or comments???

Is this the kmix error? Try this is a temporary work around:

Start up kmix (kmenu->multimedia->kmix) and de-select 'restore volumes on login' after making sure you have sound while in a KDE environment.

You could patch your sources with the patch in the bug report below, or use the workaround...

Hope this helps
