Lately I've taken up a small project with the goal of making a Gentoo-powered wireless AP/server. This is a low budget box, basically just a 200GB HD with an antenna. After a few days playing around with various designs, I now have a little file server up and running, doubling as a wireless acces point. So far I've installed the typical services on it - DHCP, FTP, and HTTP - and now I want to expand on its management/monitoring capabilities.
Ideally, I'd like to set up a web interface where associated wireless users can go to see a list of currently connected users, their addresses, signal strength, etc. Up until now I've been depending on the DHCPD log to see who has connected to the AP, which naturally isn't very helpful. Any ideas or previous experience with this would be awesome. |

Sounds like a fun project. I know that Linksys has tarballs on their website of open sourced based code for their routers/APs. Maybe (BIG maybe) they have the code for the web "interfaces" to their APs/Routers in there too? Even if it is in there, would probably take quite a bit of work to get it working on custom hardware. Just an idea. |
