Ive installed Gentoo on my Toshiba A30. It's working pretty good now, but the main problem i have is that i can't get direct rendering to work on it.
It is a P4m 2400Ghz, it has an Intel 852GME graphics chipset.
I currently use the 3.6.8-gentoo-r3 kernel, compiled with an
I810/815 framebuffer (it doesn't provide a /dev/fb* though),
character devices, /dev/agpgart, intel 440LX/BX/GX, I8xx and E7x05 chipset support,
character devices , Direct Rendering Manager, Intel 830M,845G, 852GM, 865G

I use Xorg-x11 6.7.99.904 (6.8 crashes), using Fluxbox as my WM.
I've tried about everything I could find on the net, but most guides are made for a 2.4 kernel with xfree.

How do i get this thing to work?

According to Intel's website, the 852GME is your motherboard chipset and not graphics. Are you sure you have Intel Extreme Graphics or is it another company like ATI(which most A30's I found had).
Also, exactly which A30 is it? There are different models.

i also use the i810 driver, and i fixed the dri with a patch called "i915", you have to apply it on the kernel, and then activate it under the agpart menu.. there are some posts on the forums talking about this :)

It is a Toshiba A30-404. The site says this on the graphics specs: (dutch site, translated a little
# type : Intel® 852GME
# memory size : tot 64 MB
# memory type : DDR RAM (UMA=shared)

I am pretty sure it is an Intel Extreme graphics thingie. I don't tools on the standard windows installation on this thing, but enough Intel Extreme stuff.

What i did was i applied the i915 patch (which didn't went really good, but I got it done), installed it as a module, and recompiled the kernel to get rid of the built-in i810 drivers.
Then i emerged the xorg 6.8.0.

at this point, root could get a 1000fps score. but normal users got a Segmentation Fault.

Then i took a look at /dev/dri/card0. It had a mode of 660. i su'ed and made it 666 and it worked like a charm. Then i put the DRI section in with the 0666 mode and it works great.

Thanks for the help.
