|
|
Heya all I've got my base gentoo installation done, up, and running and now i'm trying to install xorg and then gnome.
From the guides it seems like i need to install xorg first. I tryed emerging xorg-x11 but got a signal 11 error. Is there some special way I need to install xorg with the ati-drivers? If so should i be somehow deleting my previusly attempted xorg setup?
If someone could help or give me a link to something that would be of help i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance. |

No, there's not any special ways. First, you need X.Org:
Code: |
emerge xorg-x11
env-update && source /etc/profile
|
Then you need ATI drivers:
I suggest you to configure X.Org with command "fglrxconfig" (ati-config tool) and then fine-tune xorg.conf file for your needs.
Note: ati-drivers doesn't work well on X.Org 6.8.0 (masked in portage), use 6.7.0-r2 (latest stable version in portage)
Then you probably want desktop environment ;) (like KDE, Gnome, FluxBox etc...)
I'm assuming that you have Radeon, go here: http://odin.prohosting.com/wedge01/gentoo-radeon-faq.html
It helps you configuring your graphics card.
No, you don't have to delete your installation attemp, if you have downloaded files once, why to do it twice? :)
And there's X.Org guide on the net, just google ;)
EDIT: Fixed link |
