I'm that caliber of geek that likes having everything up to do 100% of the time, but updating all my packages every day seems to be quite a load on bandwidth. I'm curious.. how often do you update your gentoo? |

I have one gentoo server and 3 workstations. The server runs a cron job to emerge sync every 2 days, followed by an emerge -upDv world. I look at the output of this to determine if any important packages have been upgraded, and I manually emerge the ones that have. /usr/portage is shared over NFS to all the workstations, so I only need to sync once for 4 computers. I still need to run emerge -puDv worls on each machine manually, which I only do if there was anything upgraded on the server. |

I sometimes do it daily, but usually I wait about a week or so. |
