hi all , can anyone help me please.
im trying to install ut2004 from dvd but if i use the installer that came with it it stops and keeps asking for the game disk ???
i have also tried to run the installer from the HD not the dvd and get the same error
if i use "emerge ut2004" it copies the requires files (ie all 6 cds from the dvd) and fails after the copy
i have done a search on here and linuxquestions.org yet i cant find any way of installing it .
cheers

What message do you get when the emerge fails?
(incidentally, please don't use ALL CAPS unless you're shouting...) _________________ If your question was answered, please edit the first post and add [SOLVED] to the title. Thanks! |

Some more context would be helpful... (the actual error is probably before that). _________________ If your question was answered, please edit the first post and add [SOLVED] to the title. Thanks! |

If you've got /var on a separate hard drive partition you might be running out of space. That's the problem I've been having since emerge wants to put all 6+ gigs of UT2004 in /var/tmp before moving it to wherever it eventually gets moved. I went and added 'PORTAGE_TMPDIR=/usr/tmp' and replaced the symbolic link /usr/tmp with an actual directory since my /usr partition is 30 gigs. The problem is I forgot to delete all the stuff that was filling up /var so when it went to add some stuff to the Portage folder I got yet another error about not having enough space. What I'd really like to know is how can you just resume the installation without having to start over again, because I've had to insert all 6 CDs about 5 times now. |

ok here is everything From "emerge ut2004"
BStrain root # emerge -k ut2004
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) games-fps/ut2004-3236-r1 to /
>>> md5 src_uri ut2004-lnxpatch3236-1.tar.bz2
* Do you accept the terms of this license (ut2003)? [yes/no] y
* The installed game takes about 6.8GB of space!
* This package will need access to 6 cds.
* If you do not have the CDs, but have the data files
* mounted somewhere on your filesystem, just export
* the following variables so they point to the right place:
* CD_ROOT_1 CD_ROOT_2 CD_ROOT_3 CD_ROOT_4 CD_ROOT_5 CD_ROOT_6
* Or, if you have all the files in the same place, or
* you only have one cdrom, you can export CD_ROOT
* and that place will be used as the same data source
* for all the CDs.
* Found CD #1 root at /mnt/cdrom1
>>> Unpacking source...
>>> Unpacking linux-installer.sh to /var/tmp/portage/ut2004-3236-r1/work
x86
>>> Unpacking ut2004-lnxpatch3236-1.tar.bz2 to /var/tmp/portage/ut2004-3236-r1/w ork
>>> Source unpacked.
nostrip
>>> Install ut2004-3236-r1 into /var/tmp/portage/ut2004-3236-r1/image/ category games-fps
* Copying files from Disk 1...
* Found CD #2 root at /mnt/cdrom1
* Copying files from Disk 2...

I don't have ut2004-3236-r1.ebuild on my system... mine is more recent. So, doing 'emerge sync' may help. _________________ If your question was answered, please edit the first post and add [SOLVED] to the title. Thanks! |

I just had to make /opt a symbolic link to /usr/opt because I didn't leave enough space in /. I'm thinking I need to repartition... |
