adsl connection during installation

i have reinstalled gentoo a few times using stage3. after installation complete and reboot, i can connect to the net, ping gives me reply. but during installation from livecd i set up my connection (adsl-setup) , connection is established but ping does not give me reply. it's just like i don't have any internet connection. does anyone know what i mean? if yes, may i know why does this happen?

Need some more info on this one for sure. once you have everything setup do an ifconfig and post it here, or at least check it and make sure all your info is correct (ip, gateway, broadcast etc.)

if you can't ping 'anything' then something isn't setup correctly.

i am using adsl connection, server assigned ip. so everything is automatically set up. but don't know why , it can't ping. but after finalising installation and reboot, i can connect and ping. it's the same settings. does it need me to emerge rp-pppoe first? i'm using it.
