i don't know which to classify my install as, but this is what it does...

sometimes when i boot up, load kde.... my sound works

other times, it doesn't!

sometimes, i can access my fat32 partition, sometimes i can't

any ideas what woul dcause this type of sporradic behavior?

I'm assuming you hand-wrote that, because its i686-pc-linux-gnu and -O2. It's kind of hard to help you without the exact spelling of the file because it could be these typos that cause the error. On the other hand, I don't really know why those flags (typed correctly) would cause a problem like you described, but if you did make a typo and somehow managed to get KDE and the system compiled, that would be something to change.

it is gnu...

however, i have "o2" ...

it is a letter, not a number right?
is it case sensitive

hmmm... well tim eto reinstall gentoo!
can i just do an umerge kde and then re do it?
b/c i did from stage3, which means i didn't compile anything else
