I'm trying to print to a Laserjet printer on a Windows 2000 box. I originally tried this via samba, and now I'm using the windows LPR component ("Allow Printing From Unix computers" stuff). Both ways I get the same error.
The test page will print perfectly, so I try to print an actual pdf. Some data gets sent across the network, but looking at the printer spool on the Windows box shows 104kB received (of n Mb). It's always 104kB. A colleague running Gentoo Linux as well gets the same thing.
I set up the printer in the KDE print manager, through CUPS. The driver is set to RAW. It can't be authentication as I can print test pages, and indeed real documents are accepted.
According to the CUPS logs the job has been completed:
Description: Raw printer
Location:
Printer State: idle, accepting jobs.
"Data file sent successfully"
Device URI: lpd://192.168.0.1/PSLJ
Any ideas would be welcome. |

Why don't you use the actual LJ driver in CUPS ?
It works fine for me.
Saves quite a bit of bandwidth, too. _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /

Previously I hadn't had any success with that either - looking on the forumgs seemed to say using the RAW driver was more likely to work with Windows.
I'm just bemused that a test page can be generated and sent, but an actual pdf (for example) can't be printed, and locks up the printer most successfully as well. |
