basically i was messing around putting debian on a sparc64 server of mine (333mhz means slow compiles, especially on sparcs).
in anycase it occasionally asked me questions for apps.
is it possible to get something similar in portage. like
app-config xorg-x11
would then run x86config then fix the video card stuff. now this isn't a _perfect_ solution as new versions might deprecate options and the old config scripts might fail. but there are some common config questions that could be asked instead of the end-user needing to learn the sytax for _every_ config file for _every_ app that the defaults won't work with.
i hate reading manuals for everything i get. i usually understand the concepts of the software, but can't express it in the config file, or am unaware of an option or ect.... |

ok, X is a bad example -- it has a config script. and the script doen't work fully...
how about other things like imwheel?
imwheel (in adition to not working right) needs a config file.
i think it would be cool to get the config file without:
blind copy-paste
learning a new syntax
writing the config manually
something that says -- here are a few popular config options, which do you like?
then poof, the config is done. |
