J'ai épuisé toute les méthodes... et je comprend pas.
J'ai (normalement) installé comme il le faut les drivers NVIDIA et impossible de charger le module "glx" ...
Lorsque sous un terminal je teste "glxinfo | grep AGP", j'obtiens :
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Je precise que le module glx est bien present dans le xorg.conf

J'ai reussi à résoudre mon problème mais alors, pourquoi ça a marché? 
(opengl-update nvidia n'a pas résolu le pb)
j'ai "unmerger" nvidia-kernel puis nvidia-glx et modifié le xorg.conf en corrigeant la ligne: Driver "nvidia" par Driver "nv"
test startx (c'est horrible!)
et puis on repart en arriere :
emerge nvidia-kernel
emerge nvidia-glx
opengl-update nvidia
on re-modifie le xorg.conf (nv -> nvidia) puis startx
tadam... tout fonctionne, le module glx se charge correctement.
mais pourquoi... |

peut etre qu'un opengl-update nvidia a été fait apres l'emerge d'nvidia !
et change moi ce titre !

sinon dans le xorg.conf faut faire attention de bien decomenter le load glx
