Hi,

I recently did a fresh gentoo install on my new pc, and have only one problem.

When I play a video file in nuppelvideo format (nuv), I do not see any picture, just a black screen, and I can hear the audio. I have tried various options for -vo (xv/x11 etc), and all have the same issue.

I can play the video using nuvplay, and everything is wonderful.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Thanks,

Kevin

ps. Here is the output from mplayer when I play the video:

Code:

I had a similar problem- I was using kaffeine to play some video files, and it kept itself open in the tray. With kaffeiene still open, some other programs wouldn't play video, but audio continued.

I think I saw something like this on the MythTV lists, where someone mentioned that it was a program not releasing XV controls, or something. Sorry to be vauge, but it's all I can remember from the time.

Well, I have found the problem. It all came down to the use flags I had set. By trial and error, I have determined that the mythtv flag is what caused the problem in this case.

When I recomplied using
Code:
USE=-mythtv emerge mplayer
, magically the video would appear, and no more black screen.

Hopefully this will be of use to someone else.
