|
|
Hi,
Where can i get more information other than the short descriptions given for the USE flags?
I want to read up more on what some of these libraries and what their end purpose is.
For Example:
(you'll have to excuse me if some of these sound stupid but obviously this shows why I need a more detailed information source)
What is dga? Does it give me better graphics performance? or is it some sort of API?
DirectFB? Is this related for Framebuffer support? Like when I set it up for my console backgrounds etc?
flac? I see there are alot of audio codecs etc. What type of files are they for?
You get the point.
So, does anyone know where I can get such information?
I have tried searching the forums but I haven't seen anything yet where someone just explains what a particular USE flag does.
Any help, links etc are appreciated.
Thanks! |

Hi Thanks for the links but I have read those already.
I had already checked out the short descriptions in the Gentoo docs is there anything more detailed (on Gentoo site or otherwise)?
An I already read and used the CXXFLAGS stuff but I'm more interested in the ones that go under "USE= " in "make.conf"
Thanks - Anyone got anymore sources? |

Hmm that does help a good bit more.
At least I can look up the packages on the net and see their purpose.
(will take a while but oh well)
Just to comment, there should be better descriptions in the documentation.
One of the biggest problems I had in learning linux is finding out what all these "little names" for libraries and programs mean.
I can prolly try to give it a shot when i get the time.
Thanks, if anyone has anymore.....then post away!! |
