|
|
Hi!
The cupsd script in /etc/init.d says that CUPS needs "net".
So I looked after a network related script providing "net", but I haven't found any.
So what does cupsd actually need?
(x)inetd?
nscd?
hpptd?
anything else?
I am runnig gentoo 1.4rc1 as a standalone desktop system with isdn dialup to my ISP (no local network). Therefore, I was happy with my ipppd so far...
But the http://localhost:631 in my browser (CUPS config interface) doesn't work. It says "connection refused" or "no such service"...
BTW: What about wwwoffled? Does it need any of the daemons mentioned?
Thanks for helping

I had really problems with CUPS.
/etc/init.d/cupsd start
didn't work until I deleted
#rc-update del net.eth0 default.
You could try
#/usr/sbin/cupsd |

well, thanks, but "rc-update del net.eth0 default" isn't an option for me, since I don't have any *.eth? in my runlevels...
I have a "net.ipppd" only, which I have puzzled togehter from the "net.pppd" example (including the bug therein )
regards,
M. |

I am pretty sure the the "net" dependency is a meta dependency for "net.*". So if you start any "net.*", that would provide net. Actually, you should have this with net.lo.
This is pretty stupid, at least for sshd, which also has the "net" dependency. Configuring our new router with eth0-eth7, I restart one eth interface and blam, sshd stops. Crazy.
Btw, I just tried it again. I stopped "net.lo" and every service depending on "net" stopped, so theoretically, starting net.lo should be sufficent for cupsd et al.
Hth,
Larde.
edit: Hey, it's not called meta dependency, it's called virtual service. Still, it sucks, it's a bug not a feature, IMHO. _________________ Someday this will be my home... http://moonage.net/
