# notes
# nicksched is back, its a good idea to renice X to -10 (or -15).
# acpi-dsdt dropped because it appears to be in -mm now, to enable it : uncheck Select only drivers that don't need compile-time external firmware in Device Drivers -> Generic Driver Options and enable the dsdt stuff under acpi settings.
# disable Legacy (BSD) PTY support if you run out of PTYs while using bluetooth.
# netfilter-pom-ng-20040920.patch (Documentation/networking/pom-ng-20040920.txt):
# you MUST point /usr/src/linux to your current kernel and USE=extensions emerge iptables to be able to use these extensions.
# new matches : condition, psd, fuzzy, ipv4options, nth, quota, random, string, time, u32, owner-socketlookup (-m owner for the INPUT chain!!)
# new targets : NETLINK, XOR, TARPIT
# turn off pre-emptable bkl if you can't boot on nforce2/via chipsets.
#

this is based on mm-sources-2.6.9_rc2-r4.
you don't need a new nvidia ebuild for this, i reverted all the patches that broke vesa-tng/nvidia in mm4.
and finally its a good idea to renice X to -10/-15 since nicksched is back (yes i know, noone actually reads the notes).
now on www.love-sources.org http://www.sf.net/projects/love-sources/
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=100074&package_id=107884&release_id=271491
ebuild - patch
nvidia ebuild (in case you didnt get for love 3).
peace

hmm nicksched doesn't like SMT that much, if you have noticable lag try to turn the SMT scheduler off or even SMP.
--edit--
turning off the SMT scheduler will do the trick.

Cool, thanks! I'll give it a try in a little bit. I'm glad you're working on love more.
Like a lot of people I moved over to nitro, but I came back to the love. Those ck patches are just too unstable for me. |

hahahahaha
now wouldn't that be nice?
patch-o-matic (aka POM not porn btw ) are a couple of patches for netfilter in the kernel to add more matches/targets
check http://www.netfilter.org/documentation/HOWTO/netfilter-extensions-HOWTO.html
and glad it works for everyone, it's always my pleasure

Maybe a dumb question, but how is the ipw2200 driver supposed to work? It has to load a firmware image which does not seem to be possible since when the driver is loaded the harddisk is not mounted yet ?! |

Framebuffer makes my screen freeze (everything else still works though). I had exactly the same problem with the rc2-nitro series though.

It also seems that it interprets my resolution wrongly (i asked for 1400x1050, wich works nicely on rc1 ) _________________ Fan of the "Survivor Warriors of the Evil Empire of Bloody Destruction and Bloody Darkness" |

Nick recommends renicing X, you do it with renice -10 `pidof X`
about vesafb-tng, it works for me here 800x600, so i'm not sure.
@den_RDC would you try to set it to something lower? 800x600 for example?

Ohoh...new love!
Great, let's try swsusp2 again
Considering that this one is based on 2.6.9-rc2-mm4,

Ok... In the past I have successfully used love-sources and been quite pleased with the performance. I have recently on this machine done a clean install after replacing the HDD. I have bootstrapped the system by following direction from the forum on installing a system with nptl and the 2.6 kernel. No problems so far. I have working desktop, etc. Was/am using gentoo-dev-sources.
Upon compiling this latest love-sources I notice that when I use 'make modules_install' it installs them in '/lib/modules/2.6.9-rc2-love4y'. Notice the y appended to the end. Yet, when I re-emerge my ndiswrapper and nvidia the are installed in the directory '/lib/modules/2.6.9-rc2-love4'. I have looked in the Makefile, and it looks ok. Can someone shed some light as to what my problem is? |

@dedaux
look in your .config file for a CONFIG_LOCALVERSION (or something like that) if it has anything in it, comment it out and then you will have the regular 2.6.9-rc2-love4 version, although when you compile it will probably ask you about CONFIG_LOCALVERSION and when it does, leave it blank. _________________ This post has been over explained for newb-informing purposes.

Thanks! That did it... In fact, I vaguely remember that flying by when I did a make menuconfig and I most likely inserted the y there. |

Hi,
iv´e got performance issues with the two latest love-sources. Everytime i copy files on my hd, cpu-usage goes to 100%, even the cursor lags. Haven´t had that on pure mm.
Top says it´s kswapd which takes all the cpu...maybe because i have no swap-space enabled?
I never need it so i disabled it... |

i didn't know about this new swsup2 patch until like 6 hours after this love got released :-/
could you please edit kernel/power/suspend.c and add #include <asm/uaccess.h> and try to compile it again?
@MetatronX99 you need to do it everytime you restart X, if you're not a security freak and you're the only user of your computer you can chmod +s /usr/bin/renice and add renice -10 `pidof X` to your ~/.xinitrc before the exec line.
@dedeaux i never noticed that and i dont use swap either, but you might want to try this love since this is a new cpu scheduler/vm handler.
