Hello all,

I just upgraded from xorg 6.7.x to 6.8.0-r1 on Saturday (9/18) and an odd thing is happening... whenever xscreensaver kicks in, the whole X environment seems to restart. I had NO problems prior to Saturday.

My xorg.0.log.old only reports the following (I have NO unresolved symbols above):
Code:

Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/util/, removing from list!
AUDIT: Mon Sep 20 11:03:20 2004: 32138 X: client 2 rejected from local host
AUDIT: Mon Sep 20 11:03:20 2004: 32138 X: client 4 rejected from local host
AUDIT: Mon Sep 20 11:03:20 2004: 32138 X: client 3 rejected from local host
SetGrabKeysState - disabled
SetGrabKeysState - enabled
(II) 3rd Button detected: disabling emulate3Button
SetGrabKeysState - disabled

*** If unresolved symbols were reported above, they might not
*** be the reason for the server aborting.

Fatal server error:
Caught signal 11.  Server aborting

Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support
         at http://wiki.X.Org
 for help.
Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" for additional information.

Anyone have any clues where I should start?

Oh, I tried to re-emerge xscreensaver, but no change. My next step is to try to re-emerge xorg.

Thanks in advance,
Randy

Are you running an opengl screensaver or a 2d one? Can you run other opengl apps fullscreen? 2d apps?

I'm guessing that 99% of the savers I had running previously are opengl, they are the more '3d' type of savers.

What are some of the other opengl apps that I should try to run? (This is a work laptop, so I only have a fairly 'core' set of apps installed).

Thanks for the quick reply!...
Randy

Yes, I do believe it has something to do with opengl... I went to the screensaver setup 'widget' in the gnome menu, and any time I selected one of the 3d (what I am assuming is opengl) savers with 'auto preview' turned on, X restarts... coversely, any of the 2d savers seem to preview just fine.

What next?

I had this problem a while back, turned out that my Nvidia drivers weren't playing nicely with Xorg. so, I installed the 6111 nvidia drivers and all is good. It also wasn't loading the glx module either, but I can't remember exactly what the problem there was...

run glxgears and see if X restarts.

What video card you using? The ATI drivers don't play nice with xorg 6.8. I had to mask that version of xorg until ATI shapes up.
