|

I have a Lexmark 5150 print/scan/copy/fax combination machine. There is no working driver for this device for Linux (there is a 5000 series driver but the 5150 simply does not respond to it).
I am tempted to buy Win4Lin and run that, but I'd like to run it natively in Linux, so I need to build a driver from it. Lexmark was the first printer corporation to provide the binaries needed to assemble a working driver, but I have no experience doing this.
How long does it take to build one? How difficult is it? Will I have to read hundreds of pages of documentation to make it work, or does a few compiles usually do it? And if it works, where can I upload it so that my driver will make it into other Linux distributions for everyone to use?
I really know nothing about driver development, so a nod in the right direction would be much appreciated. |

I also have this printer -- has anyone managed to get it to work with CUPS? |
