Managing SDA devices

I'm having an issue with a USB memorystick and a external USB hard drive.

If one is plugged in before the other, the order of the SD devices get's screwed up in /etc/fstab. Is there a way to fix this?

Ok... after a good bit-o-searching I found this:

Is this relatively easy to install? What's involved in using it? After using the standard /dev management I was using, will this be a big conversion?
